Dimethyl terephthalate is a plasticizer that at standard conditions is a white, odorless solid. Dimethyl terephthalate is only slightly soluble in water, ether alcohol and acetic acid but is insoluble in benzene. As the temperature of an aqueous mixture of Dimethyl terephthalate is increased the solubility will also increase. Dimethyl terephthalate is mainly used in the production of polyesters, but has other applications that include varnishes, lacquers, and additionally it is an additive for polysulfide.
