ChemPlasa™ L-601

Generic Family: Additive -- AntiblockSupplied by: ChemPlasa Materials Ltd.
Characteristics

ChemPlasa™ L-601 is a refined Vegetable Oil based - Erucamide. ChemPlasa™ L-601 is an excellent Slip Agent and a good Antiblocking agent for Polyolefins. It is used in paper and textile industry for water-proof as well as corrosion inhibitor in oil wells. It is used for the synthesis of organic chemicals and surfactants used in detergent, ore floating agent, fabric softener, anti-static agent, germicide, insecticide, emulsifier, anti-caking agent, lubricant and water treatment agent.

Erucic acid is the cis isomer of brassidic acid ( also called cis-13-docosenoic acid belong to a monounsaturated fatty acid) derived from rape seed, wallflower seed, or mustard seed. It is insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol and methanol. Erucic acid is used as an intermediate to make chemicals such as triglycerides; erucamides; amines, behenic acid; behenyl alcohol erucyl alcohol , wide range of erucic acid metallic salts and esters, brassylic acid and pelargonic acid. End applications include lubricants, heat transfer fluids, surfactants, slip agents, emollients, cosmetics and coatings. It is also used in polyesters, plastics and nylons.

Plastics Applications

When ChemPlasa™ L-601 is mixed with polymer, it reduces friction between the polymer and processing equipment and also between the polymer to polymer inter-surfaces. Due to its migration, a thin film of ChemPlasa™ L-601 is formed on the surface of the finished product and this provides the slip effect and antiblock performance. ChemPlasa™ L-601 (Erucamide) has lower volatiles and better high temperature performance than ChemPlasa™ L-501 (Oleamide). This makes it particularly more useful for PP films applications because ChemPlasa™ L-601 allows higher processing temperatures. The longer carbon chain of Erucamide causes a delayed and reduced migration in comparison to Oleamide, which is a required property, if printing or sealing is carried out directly after processing the film. Use rate for PE is 0.05%-0.3% and PP 0.05%-0.3%.
