Citroflex citric acid esters provide a wide range of benefits when used as plasticizers with aqueous- and solvent-based polymers, including acrylic, methacrylic, ethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, nitrocellulose, vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride, vinyl pyrrolidone, vinylidene chloride, and urethane polymer systems. Vertellus Specialties Inc. offers both hydrophilic and lipophilic Citroflex esters, allowing the formulator to control the characteristics of polymer systems to suit the needs of the finished product.

The Citroflex esters offer the formulator a unique combination of environmentally friendly, desirable features. They are not volatile organic compounds (VOC's), yet combine powerful solvency with a low order of toxicity, low volatility, high flash points, and rapid biodegradability.

Citroflex A-2 is recommended for use with cellulosic derivatives. It offers low warping characteristics with cellulose acetate. Citroflex A-2 has been accepted for use as a plasticizer in food wrap films by the US Food & Drug Administration.
